On October 5, the China Electric Power Construction Enterprise Association announced that the Clean Energy Construction Prosperity Index (CEPI) for the third quarter of 2024 stands at 109.87. This is a slight decrease of 0.11 points year-on-year and 0.36 points quarter-on-quarter, still indicating a relatively prosperous state.

In the third quarter of 2024, China's newly installed clean energy capacity reached 74.66 million kilowatts, accounting for 83.12% of the national total. This represents a year-on-year growth of 17.52%. However, the growth rate of new clean energy installations slowed compared to the second quarter, contributing to the quarterly decline in the CEPI.

As of September this year, the scale of under-construction clean energy projects has reached 762.04 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 51.07%. Investment completed in the third quarter amounted to 218.2 billion yuan, an increase of 13.29%.

Clean energy generation in the third quarter totaled approximately 878.4 billion kWh, showing a year-on-year increase of 15.59%. This accounted for about 33.52% of national power generation and is equivalent to a reduction of around 721 million tons of CO2 emissions. Solar power generation alone reached approximately 1138 billion kWh, with a remarkable growth rate of over 70%.

By source type: In the third quarter, new hydropower capacity added was about 1.98 million kilowatts (up by 18.25%), with investments reaching 28 billion yuan (up by 44.33%). Wind power added 1.328 million kilowatts (up by 26.6%), but experienced a 9.16% decrease in investment to 56 billion yuan. Solar power added 5.84 million kilowatts of new capacity (up by 15.6%), with investments totaling 94 billion yuan (an increase of 6.93%).

According to the CEPI warning trend chart, after the signal shifted from the yellow light zone (overheated) back to the green light zone (stable) last quarter, the clean energy warning index continued to stay in the green light zone in the third quarter of 2024.
